System and compatibility context
The interface matters
as much as the product name.
A switch, router, adapter or cable must fit a particular deployment. Port count alone can leave speed, power, management features and physical interfaces unresolved. State the required functions rather than relying on the category name.
A port, form factor or system model can matter as much as a broad capacity description. Keep the intended workload and existing equipment connected to the enquiry.
Begin with the reference information available and identify what still needs clarification. The examples below describe enquiry groups, rather than a statement of stock, brand authorization or guaranteed supply.
Examples of requirements
A clearer product grouping.
Switches and router enquiries
Specify port count and the mandatory network features together.
Connectivity adapters with defined interfaces
Identify both ends of the cable or adapter and the intended function.
Network cabling and connection accessories
Connect accessories to the equipment model and relevant mounting details.
Build a useful specification
Keep the important
details together.
Workload and product identity
- Intended use and existing equipment
- Port count, interface and speed
- Power supply or specified PoE needs
Configuration and interface details
- Management and deployment features
- Cable type, length and connectors
- Quantity and installation constraints
- Current datasheets and compatibility information
Review the difference
A possible match
needs an understandable basis.
Are switches with the same number of ports interchangeable?
Devices with the same number of ports may have different capabilities. Keep mandatory features explicit. Network design and deployment acceptance remain with the buyer’s responsible technical personnel.
What should I specify for a network adapter or cable?
For an adapter, identify both sides of the connection and the required function. A connector’s physical shape does not establish every supported capability.
Add the quantity, unit of measure, destination and required date. Mark any uncertain detail clearly. Availability, pricing, lead time and delivery arrangements must be confirmed for the individual enquiry.

Prepare your RFQ
Networking & Connectivity: enquiry essentials.
For networking & connectivity, bring endpoints and interfaces, required functions and equipment and topology references. Keep the requested item and any proposed change on the same line of your enquiry.

| Quantity / destination | State the quantity, ordering unit, delivery destination and required date. |
Use the product enquiry guide to organize a multi-item request. Price, availability and delivery terms are confirmed for the individual enquiry.
Check functions as well as connector shape.
USB Type-C® identifies a connector; supported data and power capabilities depend on the product implementation. Record the host model and the required functions, then compare the actual product documentation. USB-IF: connector and capability terminology (PDF).
