Fasteners & Fixings

Connection and material
Start with the connection.
Keep every detail together.
A fastener enquiry needs to identify the connection, not only a familiar bolt size. Thread, length, material and grade can each change whether a proposed item meets the requirement. Anchors also need the buyer’s specified substrate and application.
A component belongs in an application. Record the connection, physical fit and material requirement so proposed items can be considered on a useful basis.
Begin with the reference information available and identify what still needs clarification. The examples below describe enquiry groups, rather than a statement of stock, brand authorization or guaranteed supply.
Examples of requirements
A clearer product grouping.
Bolts, nuts, washers and studs
Identify whether washers and nuts are part of the required set.
Screws and threaded components
State the thread form and the mating part, including any specified drawing.
Anchors and fixing accessories
Describe the substrate and the project-specified anchor configuration.
Build a useful specification
Keep the important
details together.
Identification and physical fit
- Fastener type and existing reference
- Diameter, length, thread form and pitch
- Specified material and strength grade
Commercial and document details
- Coating or corrosion-exposure requirement
- Mating component and installation context
- Quantity and pack size
- Item-specific documents required by the project
Review the difference
A possible match
needs an understandable basis.
Which fastener differences need approval?
A different finish, grade or thread should remain visible in the comparison. The buyer’s responsible project authority must approve structural or installation suitability where applicable.
Is an M12 bolt description enough to source a replacement?
If a line says only M12 bolt, the length, pitch, material, grade, head type and finish may still need clarification. Record these details together before treating a proposed item as a match.
Add the quantity, unit of measure, destination and required date. Mark any uncertain detail clearly. Availability, pricing, lead time and delivery arrangements must be confirmed for the individual enquiry.
